Yep, you read that right, Sun announced today that over 1,500,000,000 devices around the world are now powered by Java technology. It's a pretty huge number, and one that we can reasonably expect to continue growing as vast numbers of Java-powered embedded systems devices begin to appear. Here is Sun's breakdown of the numbers:

250 million Java-enabled wireless devices
650 million desktops
500 million Java SIM and Smart Cards
100 million other devices
