1. In order to get to the advanced front of IT, we have to be fluent in english. Don'g argue this, just do it(since I really don't have time for this, Big Smile).
2. I learned that a lot of folks in china try to read english java books with translations in hand. This is not the right way. Drop your cane and start walking. Besides, I hate 80% of the translations I've read, because they don't get the points most of the time, just misleading.
3. The correct way should be just reading with a dictionary(babylon, or kingsoft, or whatever). The quality of the reading is less important than the quatity of the reading. This means you read 10 books with 80% understanding, not 2 books with 100% understanding.
4. In any language learning, there are a lot of how's, not why's. Just memorize them, over the time you will have the guts feeling.
5. There are a lot of excellent english books on the net, grab them and start reading. The first one is always tough, but by the time when you get to the 3rd, it will be pretty much like chinese.

My two cents.

good opinion! I agree it's better to read english technology book directly than the translated one. The technology is not literature. Big Smile

yeah. I especially agree floater's 3rd point, "The quality of the reading is less important than the quatity of the reading".
Our chinese usually have such an inclination to read just one book thoroughly and try to understand everything wasting too much time and energy, while western education often teachs people to firstly skim one or several books to get as much as possible general ideas and then study carefully according what is needed, thus wisely helps save time and master the overall concepts.
