My opinion:

SpringFramework is an all-purpose framework, not targeted web things only. Comparatively, WebWork 2.0 is a WAF(Web application Framework), and XWork is a general command driven framework.

May be, the Xwork+WebWork is a subset of Springframework.

These two are for the web tier only, loosely spearking. Spring Framework contains others, bean package, jdbc package, etc. Spring has a hook to use these two as a web tier presentation.

This is one of the best we could get in the real world(not in theory), so take a look if have time.
