Posted by: why Posted on: 2003-10-09 21:38 Thanks, mefaint. I haven't read your translation. Not only becasue I seldom read technical stuff in Chinese, but that I found Mastering Jakarta Struts (English orginal) so-so. For those who have read mefaint's work, please do comment. Good/hard work deserves encouragement. If it is good, we'd love to give Mr. mefaint more credits. |

Posted by: mefaint Posted on: 2003-10-13 08:45 Thank you, Mr why.... In fact I am the newbie in the field of struts. But when I read Mastering Jakarta Struts, I really think it's too easy, just a accidence. But it may be good for newbies Credits will be my pleasure, and simple a word such like "thanks" will make me happy too. BTW: To Mr.Why: for u, which book about struts is more helpful?Desiring ur guiding Regards Meco.Wu |

Posted by: why Posted on: 2003-10-15 21:30 mefaint: Like most Struts develoeprs, I started with the Jakarta Struts documentation. It's not bad, in particular the User Guide. The Mastering Jakarta Struts book is more... eh... tutorial-like. I couldn't get much useful from it. Then I read Programming Jakarta Struts of O'Reilly when it's being reviewed on TSS. It's more technical and advanced, not only becasue it focuses on 1.1 but that it covers almost every topic a Struts developers needs -- well, no DynaForm and no Best Practices. This book is relatively unorganized, but very informative -- I like its chapter on Exception most, but the chapter on Tiles is just poor. I won't suggest a beginner to use this book since there're a bunch of missing pieces. I guess I have written something on Struts in Action, I won't repeat here. Finally, Jakarta Pitalls of Wiley. I'm reading it. |

Posted by: mefaint Posted on: 2003-10-17 09:33 Mr. why: Thank you for your advice. Mastering struts is really too simple. Maybe it can help us do some demos ...in its way. What I need is to explore the rockbottom mechanism...mmmm I think I should read Struts' source code ...root and branch. And I will read the 2 books your reply concerned. Thanks again! Posted by: Johnny Posted on: 2003-10-17 12:56 In my opinion, "Struts in Action" is more valueable than "Mastering Jakarta Struts", just like why metioned, "Mastering Jakarta Struts" is something tutorial like, while "Struts in Action" desc struts more deeper and integrative. I did not read other struts books except struts doc because I feel it is enough. Anayway, to mefaint, good work! |
