Get a good J2EE book, installation guide for websphere, a trial version of the software. (I would take a pack of cigar and 6 cans of coke, hehe).

Find a machine and start installation, then try to create simple applications.

Without getting your hands dirty, it's not yours!

One thing on websphere is that you need to pay attention to J2EE standard and websphere twists, that's why I mentioned that you need a J2EE book.
