Sun Microsystems Inc. is introducing a new Java-related certification, the Sun Certified Business Component Developer for the Java 2 Platform, Enterprise Edition (J2EE). The new certification went into beta earlier this summer, and Sun plans to launch the official version of the exam in September 2003.

Sun is a member of the jCert Initiative, a consortium of Java-based enterprise-development software vendors and other organizations, which cooperate to offer a single path of training and certification around Java technologies. Other jCert Initiative members include IBM, BEA Systems, Prometric, ProsoftTraining, Computer Generated Solutions and SkillSoft.

The latest Java certification in Sun’s arsenal, the Sun Certified Business Component Developer for the Java 2 Platform is designed for programmers who specialize in using J2EE technologies to create server-side components that encapsulate the business logic of an application. Before pursuing this credential, candidates must earn the Sun Certified Programmer for the Java Platform credential.

The new certification requires exam #310-090, which will be launched in September 2003. This exam covers the following: overview of JavaBeans, client view of a session bean, session bean component contract, session bean lifecycle, client view of an entity, component contracts for Container-Managed Persistence (CMP), CMP entity bean lifecycle, entity beans, EJB-QL, message-driven bean component contract, transactions, exceptions, enterprise bean environment and security management.

I fail with 61% (pass is 64 ....) I do not have a lot time reviewing the material as I take the CISA exam at the same time (I pass the CISA).

At this moment the book you need is the EJB 2.0 spec. There is a book called Head First EJB coming out very soon will cover the exam (current there are three chapter averiable in pdf format).

I will retake the eam within one month.
